I received this in my email inbox today and think it is worth sharing. I wonder what majors will be offered. Anyone care to take a guess?

The Secret is OUT! | |
BFA Program Announced
Today marks the official announcement (and it's been a darn hard "secret" to keep!) of our board of trustees' decision to add a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree program to what we teach - which will make us the only independent college of art in Texas.
The new BFA degree program will begin in the Fall of 2013. The decision seemed to be "the logical next step" in large part because we already have an outstanding faculty and top-notch studios in ceramics, book arts, digital imaging, fibers, metals, glass, painting, papermaking, photography, and printmaking and more.
School Name Change Revealed
At the same time, we're shortening our name to Southwest School of Art, since it's easier to say and remember, and affirms our belief that the craft arts are a subset of art, rather than separate.
The new BFA degree program will co-exist along with all our other cherished programs such as studio classes for adults, exhibitions, children's art programs, and other community programs and events such as Fiesta Arts Fair, our Dia de los Muertos altar and (coming Dec. 11) Art.i.copia. This is big news for San Antonio, but we want to know what you think. Tell us on our Facebook page! |

Pretty exciting, Leslie! Especially with what is happening to arts education everywhere else in the country!
ReplyDeleteIt is a huge surprise, at least to me. I can't wait to learn more about it!
ReplyDeleteThe degree will be a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a focus on Material Studies. Students will study all media, however may elect to concentrate in a specific area….including fiber.
