Preparing to leave for the Long Beach festival 2012

By now, many of you know that Jamie and I get very silly when we are together.  Don't get me wrong:  we work hard, too, but we REALLY get goofy.  If someone told me 10 years ago I would be stopping off at a Target to get a new Barbie with pink highlights I would have snorted in my tea.  Well......

Prior to leaving Jamie's house for the festival we worked on placement of 

the quilts to be hung in "Rituals".  Judy Coates Perez looks on and gives 

some excellent suggestions

Now, inside the convention center, the "girls" oversee the installation of the show!

Amsterdam Alley: The Shortcut Between

Here is my newest quilt, "Amsterdam Alley:  The Shortcut Between", which will debut in Long Beach at the International Quilt Festival as a curator's piece in our exhibition, "The Space Between".
The central portion of the quilt is a digital photo (Spoonflower) transferred to cloth.  I must have resorted the components of this quilt 2 dozen times, but I am satisfied with the results.  Loads of Aurifil and Superior Threads were used on this quilt.  A spool of Superior Monopoly thread has 2400 yards and I went through 1.5 spools!  I use it exclusively in the bobbin, but this quilt has quite a bit on the top, as well.
I'm still stitching the facing down and have to put the sleeve on the back, a terrible confession about just how late I am in getting this baby finished, but that is the way of it this year.
I'm getting very excited to hang the show in Long Beach, along with Jamie Fingal and our team of Dinner@8 volunteers.

Come Join Us in Long Beach at International Quilt Festival!

Teaching at Festival in Long Beach, CA

Jamie Fingal and I will be team teaching at the International Quilt Festival in Long Beach, California - July 27-31st at the Long Beach Convention Center.  We are very excited about being part of the "faculty!"

Thur, July 28th - 6 hour class - 9am to 5pm
#204 Musical Chairs:  A Painted Canvas Adventure - join us for a fun filled day of free-style painting on canvas, where students will change seats when the music stops, to create a collaborative painting on canvas.  Each student will receive a section to make the following items below -

from the painted canvas, students will create one-of-a-kind art cards, ATC, postcards and a cover for a sketchbook

Sat, July 30th - 3 hour class - 2-5pm
#432 Playful Painting on Canvas - come release your inner child and paint a collaborative canvas.  Each student will receive a section to take home.

Make-It-University - Scrappy Pin Cushions - recycle an Altoid tin to create a unique and fun pin cushion.  MIU is a lottery system, so come early to put your name in the appropriate container for each day.  Arrive at least 15 min ahead of time, so if they call your name, you will get in the class.  Classes are $10 cash.

Create a mini flag banner with 5 pieces of primed canvas and acrylic paint. The flags will be stapled to zipper trim, ready to hang in a treasured spot.

1:15 – 2:15: Mixed Media Box to Go
Go Wild by painting a paper take out box with acrylic paint, utilizing patterns and complimentary colors.
